Astonishing





Issuance year - 2011, March

100th anniversary of the birth of Franc Rozman-Stane

Depicted in the image, all the coins (15) sent by Miguel, from Madrid, Spain, in exchange for the newest commemorative portuguese coins - Fernão Mendes Pinto, in our last swap last month. In the foreground, one of the commemorative ones, the original and astonishing Slovenian 2011 commemorative coin.
The inner part of the coin bears a stylised image of Franc Rozman-Stane, general in the High Command of the Slovene partisan army and a national hero of Slovenia.

By mistake

Not to drink...

Alto Douro Vinhateiro - Wine producing Region of Upper Douro - Unesco World Heritage

Alexandra Vieira, a work mate, got me this original and magnificent 2,5 € coin. On the 14th December 2001, UNESCO classified as World Heritage, in the category of cultural landscape, an area larger than 26 thousand hectares in Northeastern Portugal, the Upper Douro Wine Region. This region has been producing wine for more than 2000 years, including the world Port Wine. The coin presents on the observe an element that suggests at the same time the flowing river Douro and/or a vine-plant with two hanging leaves bearing the coat of arms of the Republic and the denomination. The reverse shows the river and the sequence of mountains with their typical terraces.

First Finish commemorative coin

All these fabulous coins depicted in the image - 2 commemorative and 7 currency finish coins, result of a recent exchange with Jouni Saarni from Finland. The front coin shows male and female faces separated by a line and it features the 100th anniversary of the Universal and equal suffrage.

Fado

Issued year - 2008, September

Only 175.000 of this magnificent 2,5 € coin have been issued. This edition is dedicated to the famous music style associated with the Portuguese people and life.
The obverse of this tribute coin features a striking portrait of "The Queen of Fado", Amália Rodrigues (1920-1999). Amália Rodrigues is known for popularizing the Fado worldwide. The coin features her resting on the end of a traditional Fado (Portuguese) guitar. In a semi-circle on the right hand side of the coin are the words "Patrimonio Cultural" (Cultural Patrimony).
The Reverse shows the body of the Fado Guitar, also known as the Portuguese Guitar.

Only two missing...

One more german 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome coin to my collection. This one was also sent by Wendy (see all the last three posts), and has the "F" - Stuttgart mintmark.
Now there are only two mintmarks missing: "A" - Berlin and "J" - Hamburg. Is there anyone out there interested in swapping these missing coins with me?

Second German Busdeslander Series

Issued year - 2007, February
Germany started the commemorative coin series "The 16 States of the Federal Republic of Germany" in 2006. One coin representing a German state will be issued per year between 2006 and 2021 and will coincide with that state's presidency of the 'Bundesrat'. The fabulous coin depicted in the image belongs to the second Series - 2007 with mintmark "D" - Munich is going to be placed just next to the "F" - Stuttgart in my collection.
All the coins in the image were sent me by Wendy (see the last two posts).

Third German Busdeslander Series


Issued year - 2008, February
The coin depicted in the image, is now my first 2008 german Bunsdesland series coin (3th of 16), obtained in a recent swap with a netherlands collector - see yesterday post and it features St. Michael's Church, in Hamburg. This "F" - Stuttgart mintmark coin must now wait for the other 4 mintmark ones.

Commemorative Austrian State Treaty

Issuance year - 2005, May
Another coin sent by Marko from Slovenia in our last swap. This original coin shows a reproduction of the signatures and seals in the Austrian State Treaty, which was signed by the foreign ministers and ambassadors of the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and France, and by Leopold Figl, Foreign Minister of Austria, in May 1955. It also represents my first Austrian commemorative coin.

The coin depicted in the image, whose centre features Europa and the bull, with Europa holding a pen and the text of the European Constitution, representing the 1st anniversary of the signing of the European Constitution, also results of an exchange with Marko from Slovenia.

Commemorative Slovenian "Primož Trubar"

Issuance year - 2008, May
The 5 coins depicted in the image also result of my exchange with Marko from Slovenia. With a very original design, the coin features an effigy of Primoz Trubar in left profile to commemorate the 500th anniversary of his birth.
Primož Trubar, was a Slovene Protestant reformer, the founder and the first superintendent of the Protestant Church of the Slovene Lands, a consolidator of the Slovene language and the author of the first Slovene printed book.
Is any Finnish collector out there interested in swapping coins for some of these coins or portuguese ones?

Commemorative Netherlands Rome Treaty

Yay, two new awesome commemorative coins from The Netherlands.
One of them is joining the other four 2007 Treaty of Rome in my collection (Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Germany -"D") and the other one is now available for swapping. The Belgium RT and the 2 € Belgium Commemorative "Atomium", the German RT, this two RT, and 22 more currency coins are all thanks to a swap with Wendy, from The Netherlands. Jolly Good.

Commemorative Belgian Atomium



Issuance year - 2006

The image only features one of 5 commemorative coins and other missing 17 coins sent me, by a friendly and very nice "Dutch", Wendy from The Netherlands. That was a good mach as swapping partners. This beautiful and original coin shows in the centre a representation of the ‘Atomium’, strange monument built in 1958 in Brussels for the Universal Exhibition.

Commemorative Greek Olympic Games

In August 2004, the Olympic Games returned to the country where they were born over 2,500 years ago, and to Athens the city of their revival in 1896. So the Greeks have issued 35.000.000 of this commemorative and wonderful coin.
Unhappyly, at this moment only one coin is available to swap.

Commemorative Spanish coin


Issuance year - 2005, April
Just next to us, the Spanish have issued (8 million coins) this beautiful and commemorative coin referring the 4th century of the 1st edition of "The Ingenious Nobleman Don Quixote de la Mancha", the famous book written by the novelist, playwright, poet and the most famous figure in Spanish literature, Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra.
The coin shows Don Quixote holding a lance, with windmills in the background.
